Aging and Immunity Program Hosts Dr. Maxim Artyomov for a Special Seminar

The Gene Lay Institute Aging and Immunity Program hosted Dr. Maxim Artyomov to give a special seminar on “Understanding Immune Aging”. The one-hour seminar took place at the Rotunda at Harvard Medical School on December 10th and was widely attended by the Boston scientific community.

Dr. Hemberg Promoted to Associate Professor

Dr. Hemberg is recognized for his groundbreaking research in computational genomics, focusing on developing methods to analyze complex biological data and understanding gene regulation in diseases like cancer and neurodegeneration. His lab collaborates closely with experimental groups, driving advancements at the intersection of computational biology.

Dr. Anderson Promoted to Full Professor

Ana Anderson, Ph.D., has been promoted to Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School (HMS). This promotion is a testament to Dr. Anderson’s innovative research in the field of immunology, her passionate mentorship, and her exemplary service in neurology and neuroscience. Dr. Anderson’s laboratory investigates the mechanisms of regulation of the T cell responses in inflammatory diseases, specifically autoimmunity and cancer.

Aging and Immunity Program Hosts First Annual Workshop
April 5th, 2024
The Gene Lay Institute Aging and Immunity program held its inaugural Scientific Workshop on April 5, 2024 in the Wolf Conference Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
The Workshop was opened by program leaders Francisco Quintana, PhD and Marcia Haigis PhD, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Gene Lay for making the event possible. Drs. Quintana and Haigis then welcomed the Workshop speakers, pioneering leaders in the field whose work addresses shifts in the immune response throughout the aging process and new tools in which to study them.

Gene Lay receives the Chancellor’s Medal from UC San Diego

Institute welcomes Gene Lay on first official visit

The Institute welcomed an in-person visit from Gene Lay, MS, DVM to meet with Mass General Brigham leadership, discuss the Institute’s focus and first actions with its director and faculty, and tour the new Institute facilities.

Gene Lay Institute inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony held at BWH

The inauguration event featured a roundtable discussion with Gene Lay, MS, DVM and the Institute directors, Vijay Kuchroo, DVM, PhD, Arlene Sharpe, MD, PhD, and Ramnik Xavier, MD, PhD where they discussed their goals and visions for the Institute, along with speeches from BWH, MGB, and HMS leadership.
The event culminated in a surprise visit from Mayor Michelle Wu, who thanked Lay on behalf of the city of Boston and a ceremonial ribbon cutting to open the Institute.
